SISMO MAYOR EN TOCOPILLA

Un Sismo Mayor, de magnitud 7.7 Mw, ha tenido lugar a 40 Kms de profundidad en las cercanías de Tocopilla. Los parámetros preliminares de este sismo y sus réplicas son los siguientes:

Su profundidad lo sitúa en la Placa Continental por sobre la Placa descendente de Nazca y su ocurrencia tiene lugar casi cuatro meses luego de haberse reanudado la actividad en el área del Codo de Arica con el sismo a profundidad mayor del día 2007 07 21. (Ver http://sismoarica.blogspot.com/)

GRAN SISMO EN PERU

Un Gran Sismo ha tenido lugar en la costa de Perú a la altura de Chincha Alto. El sismo tiene lugar a los 92 días de haber sido emitida la alarma de "Entrada al Umbral del Sismo Mayor" para la Zona de Subducción de la PLACA DE NAZCA.

El Gran Sismo ocurre muy próximo a dos Sismos Fuerte que tuvieron lugar en esa ubicación el 2006 10 20 y 2006 10 26. Un Mapa de Sismicidad actualizado ha sido publicado en el sitio que emitió la alerta el 12 de Mayo pasado.

El siguiente es el registro de sismos de magnitud leve (>4.0) y moderada (>5.0) en la provincia de Aysen desde el 22 de Enero 2007:

En el Mapa de Sismicidad, las fechas en azul corresponden a sismos de este año (2007). Las fechas en negro corresponden a algunos sismos ocurridos durante la erupción del volcán Hudson en 1991. The data in blue letters corresponds to 2007 seismicity, while data for seismicity of the 1991 Hudson Volcano eruption is in black colour. There were also two moderate earthquakes in the year 2000, Feb. 14th.

SEISMICITY MAP PRE AND POST SUMATRA MEGA EARTHQUAKE, LINKED

The Seismicity Map shows earthquakes magnitude > 7.0, starting three months before the Sumatra Mega Earthquake of 2004 12 26. Earthquakes are linked according to date. There were seven earthquakes in the three months prior to 2004 12 26 and twenty six earthquakes in the twenty seven months post 2004 12 26.

NEW MODERATE EARTHQUAKE IN AYSEN AND LINKED BIG EARTHQUAKE 1960 05 22

A new earthquake has taken place in Aysen only 9 miles away from the other two moderate earthquakes which peked the seismic swarm in Aysen, southern Chile. The 5.60 mb GS magnitude seism is the third in the area and highest so far.

The preliminary parameters of this new seism are:

A few miles nearer to the surface, the magnitude of 5.60 mbGS makes it the strongest in many years in the area. The third moderate earthquake since Jan 23rd, a month ago, is still some 100 Kms from the Aysen fjord where at the seismic swarm has been located.

The (linked) map for Big earthquake 1960 05 22 has been added. The rupture of some 1000 Kms is shown as a sequence of aftershocks which extend well beyond 1961, 1963 and 1967. The last major earthquakes hit the mainshock area in 1974 and 1975.
